Płock is the oldest town in the Mazowsza region and one of the oldest towns in Poland. It was granted its city privileges charter as early as in 1237. The local cathedral is the burial place for two Polish kings – Władysław Herman and Bolesław Krzywousty (11th and 12th centuries). In 1075 the town was established a capital city for the whole Diocese. The town is beautifully situated on the high banks of the Vistula River, on which you may see the high cathedral towers and the castle from a long distance. Płock is situated on the Vistula River on lowlands in central Poland. The town is absolutely unique in Poland with its picturesque location on the high river banks, which in itself is a tourist attraction. The river bank in Płock has been for years a favourite object for painters and photographers and provides enormous opportunities for walks or bicycle tours. On the Vistula River, near Płock a body of water has been established with perfect conditions for sailing. The place is also famous for its beautiful sunsets.
